Appointed Distress Index
The index is being built from every Gazette insolvency notice since January 2020. It will appear here automatically.
Hundreds of notices in. Five deals out.
Every week The Gazette publishes hundreds of insolvency notices. Almost none say what's actually for sale. We do that work for you.
The week in numbers
Every administration, liquidation and winding-up order in the UK, plus the Appointed Distress Index: one number for business distress, by region.
Five deals, broken down
What's for sale, the company's track record, the sale route, the deadline and who to call.
Early warnings
Winding-up petitions worth watching, with each company's history, before they become sales.
Context, not just names
Is it new trouble, or an old habit?
Every featured company gets a track record check: filing history, changes of ownership, lending, and whether the brand has failed before. Then a one-line read, so you know what you're looking at.
Examples of the read on each deal
Repeat failureThe brand has been through administration before, under a different company.
Recent change of controlNew owners shortly before the appointment, after years of on-time filing.
Chronic late filerLate with its accounts every year, but always catches up. On its own, a weak signal.
Who reads Appointed
People who buy, fund or advise on assets coming out of insolvency.

Where does the information come from?
Public records only: The Gazette, Companies House, and official sources such as the Bank of England and GOV.UK. See how we work.
Do you sell the assets or take a fee?
No. We're a publisher. We don't value assets, arrange sales or take commission. Every deal lists the office holder to contact directly.
What is the Distress Index?
One number for UK company insolvencies over the last four weeks, against the 2024 to 2025 average (100). It's built from every Gazette notice, counted once per company, and checked every month against the official statistics. See it live.
Is this investment advice?
No. It's information compiled from public records. Always do your own checks with the office holder.
